CCTV DRAIN SURVEYING

Closed Circuit Television CCTV Drain Surveys are the most accurate way to detect suspected structural problems in drains and pipework.

As time goes on drains and sewers can deteriorate leading to possible structural problems.

The cause for this deterioration can be a variety of different reasons such as:

  • Ground movement
  • Root intrusions
  • Or simply poor construction

During a drain survey, state-of-the-art camera technology is pushed or driven along the pipe whilst the drainage engineer monitors the screen, this allows the drain engineer to take a closer look at the inside of drains, pipes and sewers. These surveys identify the cause and nature of blockages.

Why Home-Buyers Should Consider a Pre-Purchase Drainage Survey

Camera surveys are not only used for fault finding, it is now very common for potential home buyers to request a drain survey before completing on the sale.

Defective drains are responsible for up to 40% of subsidence cases which is why carrying out a thorough pre-purchase survey is recommended.

A typical home buyer’s CCTV drain survey, on a standard 3 bedroom home, can average up to two-three hours. The first hour to clean the drainage system (if required) and the remaining two hours to carry out the survey. Commercial surveys will take longer depending on the size of the building.

The Importance of High-pressure Jetting

In some cases the drain will require high pressure jetting to clean the drain prior to surveying, this ensures that the footage, photographs and report will be of the highest quality. When booking a survey always be sure that you have been quoted for jetting as well as surveying.

Drain Tracing and Mapping

In conjunction with the CCTV Camera is our sonar drain tracing and mapping equipment. This allows us to pinpoint from above the ground the exact location of objects such as:

  • Hidden manholes
  • Unknown pipes
  • Damaged and fractured pipes
  • Unmovable blockages
  • Or simply create a site plan of the drainage system
